Chucuito, the City of the Royal Coffers (Cajas Reales), is about 20 km south of Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. In colonial times it was a key town in the Collao: mercury was stored here to assay the gold and silver of Potosí.

This private 2h30min tour takes you through a Lupaca, Inca and colonial town. Exclusive transport and a bilingual guide (Spanish/English).

Inca Uyo (in Aymara, dwelling of the Inca) is Chucuito’s Fertility Temple: a ceremonial enclosure with more than 50 stone sculptures. It is linked to rites to Pachamama and the sun, and to an observatory for the agricultural calendar.

You also walk the Plaza de Armas (the sundial and crafts), the 16th-century churches of Santo Domingo and Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and the viewpoint over Titicaca. The trout farm is visited if it is open.

Morning (2h30min)

• 09:30. Pickup at your hotel if it is around Puno’s main square. Departure to Chucuito (~20 min).
• 10:00. Arrival in Chucuito. Visit to the Fertility Temple Inca Uyo. Plaza de Armas and sundial. Churches of Santo Domingo and Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Viewpoint over Lake Titicaca. Local crafts if you like. Trout farm (if open).
• 11:30. Return to Puno.
• 12:00. Arrival in Puno. Transfer to your hotel or the main square.
