If you plan to visit Peru; this is the best option to know the famous Sun Route that represents a magical trip that unites the cities of Cusco and Puno; however , you can do this route from the city of Puno to Cusco or vice versa.

The Sun Route offers you one of the best views; being a complete tour where you can enjoy wonderful landscapes; magical places and much of the ancient history with this part of Peru.

But how do you travel? What does the tour consist of?

The Tour of the Ruta del Sol is done through a bus whose point of origin can be Cusco or Puno; as we had previously mentioned, leaving at 7:00 am and arriving at 5:00 pm to Puno or Cusco, passing for places of great tourist interest.

The Ruta del Sol tour includes a bilingual guide (English and Spanish) both during the tour on the bus and at stops and visits. Hot or cold drink services are also offered on board the bus; of course including coca tea, to combat altitude, and the tasting of the famous Oropesa bread (Pan de cusco).

The first stop “La Capilla de Andahuaylillas”:

The second stop “The Archaeological Complex of Raqchi”:

Arriving at the second stop of the route of the Sun Route, you must be prepared, because the heights will increase; Archaeological Complex of Raqchi is 3,450 meters above sea level, and is known as the “Temple of the god Wiracocha”. The archaeological park was built in different periods, during the reign of the Inca Wiracocha; the Pachacutec government and the last period named by the Inca Tupas Yupanqui.

 This has approximately a thousand hectares and in it we can find constructions such as aqueducts, underground tombs and pre-Inca culture precincts. The most notable is the Temple to Wiracocha, the largest Inca Temple; the Statue, the Enclosures, the Colcas and finally the Inca Bath and the Usno. Entrance to access the complex is S / 15 soles. Finally we recommend that you have a hat or cap on, including of course sunscreen and UV protected lenses. and the use of caps to stop the sun is recommended.

La Tercera Parada “Lunch Stop Restaurant Buffet La Pascana”:

It is located on the outskirts of the town of Sicuani and has a wide variety of typical Peruvian and regional food. Hot drinks are included in the price, however cold drinks are not included.

The Fourth Stop “El Paso de la Raya”:

At last on the border between Cusco and Puno, it is located approximately 4,335 meters above sea level; undoubtedly the highest point of La Ruta del Sol, also this place is located on the Andrés mountains where the Amazon river is born.

Known for its picturesque steep slopes and landscapes where photos can be taken. At this stop the temperatures are somewhat lower, therefore the use of a coat is recommended.

The fifth and last stop “Lithic Museum of Pukara”:

The Lithic Museum of Pukara is located about 3,900 meters above sea level, in this museum you can find ceramics; sculptures of animal figures, among which we find the famous sculpture del Hatunñaqac, which translated would be the supreme cutthroat. The entrance to access the Lithic Museum of Pukara is S / 10 soles; inside the museum it is not allowed to take photos or record videos.
